EN2021 17th-Century Literature 1 (PC)

Below are some of the addresses where you can find and print out the texts of the poems in this second-year course. Many of these sites also offer useful commentaries, biographical and background information. If you use any of these in your coursework, you must of course refer to the author and the web address in your list of Works Consulted

You will find many of the set poems at the following Web addresses.

For Lanyer, Philips, Wroth in particular, look at

http://www.usask.ca/english/phoenix/homepage3.htm

For Lanyer's Description of Cookeham

For Wroth in 17th century spelling (very much worth a look), go to

If you prefer the texts in book form, which is ultimately more convenient, you should buy one of the following textbooks:

Dawson, Terence, and R. Scott Dupree, eds. Seventeenth-Century English Poetry: the Annotated Anthology (London: Harvester, 1994)

Cummings, Robert, ed. Seventeenth-Century Poetry: An Annotated Anthology (Oxford: Blackwell, 2000)

The Dawson and Dupree is currently out of print, but has been a set text for some time and may be acquired second-hand in Cork. Both textbooks are also available in the library.
