Ethical Use of this Site
Contributors to this on-line archive have given us permission to
publish their narratives on the web, mostly in their own names.
They have consented to being represented on the Internet as part
of this archive and in some cases only after specified edits have
been made. Because researchers will be using these narratives in
many different ways we ask that pseudonyms are used rather than
the narrators¹ names.
The Irish Centre
for Migration Studies holds copyright to these recordings.
Although the recordings and accompanying materials are posted on
this site, this does not make them public domain documents, nor
does it constitute a right to copy and /or publish them. We
ask that no use (beyond limited quotation) is made of the interviews
without the permission of the Irish Centre for Migration Studies. To
gain permission you can email migration@ucc.ie
The Irish Centre for Migration Studies has signed release forms
from all of the interviewees giving us the right to publish the
recordings on the Internet and to use them for educational,
research, and public purposes. However, there are ethical
concerns about use of this material that the Centre must consider
when establishing access provisions. For instance, as curators
of this collection, we think it is important that users of the recordings
consider the context of each statement and respect the speakers'
integrity in any public representation based on the recordings.
We ask that researchers approach the material with respect for,
and awareness of the individuals whose lives, ideas, and experiences
are represented here.
